A German shepherd doesn't wear a tag. It takes the tag on patrol: fence-line sprints, pool laps in July, wrestling matches with the other dog, and a lot of scratching at a collar buried under a coat that never actually stops shedding.
Ours are laser engraved, so the words are cut into the metal instead of painted on top. On colored tags the laser lifts the anodized color and exposes bright silver underneath; on stainless and brass the mark goes dark. Mud, pool water and a full shedding season can't peel off something that isn't stuck on.
The joke outlasts the undercoat. Which is saying something.

We're a family in Lehi, Utah with seven English bulldogs and one very busy laser. We wrote the bulldog tags first, from experience. The shepherd jokes come from the shepherds we meet at the dog park, every one of them staring at our bulldogs like they forgot to file a report.
